Nashville, Tennessee.
Music city.
Yeehaw.
That’s the first thing I said as I got off my flight for my brief visit down South to visit Tennessee. I thought it would be a solid time to take a little trip over the Christmas break to explore and see my hockey team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. First thing I noticed was the temperature change. Solid! I was diggin this warmer weather-not because its been super cold back in New Jersey but because I just wasn’t used to it being milder this time of year. Besides the game, I wanted to do and see as much as I could in the short amount of time I had in Music City. There’s so much to do here!
Johnny Cash Museum-The first stop on my tour. Very cool museum showcasing Cash’s life and his impact on country music in Nashville. I got to check out some of his guitars and letters he wrote to family/friends while on tour. I was never a huge JC fan but I gained a lot of respect/appreciation after leaving his museum. Definitely a must see!
RCA Studio B-The legendary recording studio where many country artists recorded including Elvis, Dolly Parton, Chet Atkins among many others. As a music geek, this place was epic! Checking out the old consoles and instruments made me go back in time-it’s not everyday you get to check out a legendary music studio. If you’re in the area, check it out!
Country Music Hall of Fame-This is the biggie. The one thing you really need to see once you get here. Spanning two full floors, the CMHOF is the pinnacle of everything country music. From old school bands like Brooks & Dunn all the way to a really elaborate Kacey Musgraves exhibit it’s got everything for everyone. Expect to spend a few hours in here and don’t rush! Lot to experience!
Belle Meade Plantation-One of the biggest plantations in Tennessee. About 20 minutes outside of Nashville. I recommend doing a tour and be sure to give yourself enough time to see all of the grounds! It’s always fascinating to me to go back in time and experience life the way it was back in the 20’s-30’s and hear the history about the families who lived here. At least 5-6 families lived at the mansion during its time of use always being sold due to money issues and debt. It’s an amazing spot that I’m glad I got to check out. Famous landmark in Tennessee.
The Ryman Auditorium-One of the most famous music spots in Nashville. I got to see The Grand Ole Opry here and it was an amazing show! Radio show with 7-8 country acts performing a few songs each broadcasted around the world. Its also the longest running radio show in the world. Great venue for upcoming acts to get recognition and show off their stuff. And it’s all on radio! Check it out! 650 AM WSM
Last but not least…Broadway. No, not NYC. But Broadway in downtown Nashville! A crazy street lined with bars and restaurants and live music played from every corner! After seeing the hockey game, I ventured to broadway and I’m really glad I did! It’s sort of touristy but you have to go down and check it out at least once! The scene is super lively and it made for an incredible experience.
I’ll say it again-If you haven’t visited Nashville, what are you waiting for? The city is waiting for you.
YEEHAW!
